The primary objective for the Business Intelligence Engineer is to strategically design and implement BI solutions to meet business needs through the acquisition and integration of data from various sources. Serves as the primary technical resource for the BI community and environment by understanding data integration points and use of data across the enterprise. Serves as a key member in defining the business intelligence vision and strategy roadmap. Functions as a key resource within IT for ensuring data integration, data quality, data governance adherence. Serves as caretaker of schemas to ensure integrity of data warehouse is sustained.


Strategy and Planning

  • Assess and cultivate short/long-term strategic goals to ensure that BI/TM1 Architecture, BI/TM1 Tools, Applications and Data Warehouse capabilities meet business requirements and industry best practices
  • Partner and collaborate with team of individuals on the evaluation and selection of database/data warehouse platforms, ETL software, metadata management tools, testing automation tools and data quality tools


Applications Center of Expertise

  • Responsible for the management, setup, configuration and support of back-end database instances as it relates to non-transactional business applications which are not SaaS solutions.


BI Center of Expertise

  • Serves as center of expertise leader for data warehouse as it relates to build and implementation of BI/TM1 solutions
  • Participates in the design, planning and architecture of BI/TM1 solutions
  • Responsible for debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting BI/TM1 solutions during work hours and nightly on-call
  • Creates and deploys BI/TM1 reports
  • Provides in-depth training on BI architecture, data, reports and ad-hoc capabilities
  • Ability to write complex queries, views and stored procedures
  • Responsible for integrating enterprise wide data into BI/TM1 environments
  • Responsible for adhering to Fiskars development and testing methodology
  • Analyze functional requirements and create design specifications for BI/TM1 solutions
  • Writes ETL code and adheres to ETL design guidelines to ensure a consistency in building solutions
  • Collaborate with project managers to provide estimates and ensure that tasks and milestones deadlines are met
  • Conduct job duties and responsibilities according to the Fiskars development methodology
  • Design and deliver end-user training and training materials
  • Analyzes business requirements to determine impacts and risks to existing BI functionality create mitigation plans as needed
  • Ensures that use of data in BI/TM1 environments is seamlessly integrated and consistent
  • Assist project teams in aligning projects, enhancements and issues to BI/TM1 architecture


Data Architecture, DBA

  • Responsible for overall architecture and design of atomic and aggregate star schemas
  • Creates DDL to support logical and physical data models
  • Responsible for facilitating model reviews with IT and the business stakeholders
  • Ensures data warehouse designs and architecture supports interoperability with BI solutions
  • Manages and supports best practices as it relates to database server configurations
  • Responsible for performance tuning and indexing best practices
  • Responsible for building and maintaining database cubes with Transformer

Data Quality and Testing

  • Proactively identifies data quality issues and risks and opportunities for improvements
  • Establishes and executes data quality processes and procedures
  • Identifies and executes initiatives/projects to improve data quality
  • Establishes and executes data quality monitoring and reporting processes
  • Responsible for thorough and rigorous testing behaviors as outlined in the methodology
  • Responsible for conducting peer reviews of code and test results prior to user acceptance testing


BI/TM1 Application Server Administration

  • Ability to configure and enable BI/TM1 services on the application server
  • Ability to perform administrative duties and functions on the application server
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on the application server


Position Requirements:

Education & Certification

  • College diploma or university degree in computer science, information systems or related experience
  • CBIP (Certified Business Intelligence Professional) desired
  • MSCE Business Intelligence - desired


Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of five years direct work experience in business intelligence or application development environment
  • Experience with data warehouse design, architecture and concepts
  • Expertise and experience in BI and DW space
  • Demonstrated ability with NT, UNIX and AIX operating systems.
  • Strong ability to analyze user requirements and build BI solutions according to specifications
  • Solid understanding of building stored procedures
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles and best practices
  • Full project management and development life cycle experience.
  • Experience with database architecture, design and data modeling
  • Administering database and application servers
  • Experience with data flow and lineage charting techniques
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Big Data ecosystems, concepts and best practices
  • Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
  • Experience with Agile Methodology
